Micah 6:8 What does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. When Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, they never thought they would see him again. However, God did. God knew exactly how it would play out and even gave them a foreshadowing through Joseph’s dreams. At the time, the brothers thought Joseph was being arrogant and presumptuous, and they wanted no more of him. Joseph stays faithful to God and is blessed by God. He is given good positions and eventually is given charge of all of Egypt. Was this because Joseph was an incredible businessman? This was because he had the spirit of God in him and Pharaoh could see this. Dr. Peter Stoner, Professor Emeritus of Science at Westmont College, wrote a book entitled Science Speaks, (Moody Press, 1969, P.109) in which he wrote about the law of "compound probability", in reference to just 8 of these prophecies about Jesus coming true. Micah was a Prophet who lived about 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. He was most likely a peasant farmer by trade. His prophetic work covers the span of three kings from 738 to 698 BC. In his prophesy, he proclaims the Lord’s judgement upon Israel and Judah. In chapter seven from the book of Micah, he describes his despair and most likely the despair of the people, especially the poor. He says he feels like when the summer fruit has been gathered or there is “no first-ripe fig which my soul desires”. In other words, he is describing the feeling of running out of energy and resources. He goes on to describe the scene where evil seems to be triumphant, and righteousness is being defeated.
