2021 Daily Devotion - Day 462

Deuteronomy 29:29
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

This verse has brought me comfort over the years as I face trials – trials of unanswered prayer or prayer answered but not the way I wanted or thought best. I consider these as the “secret things” that belong to God. While I may want or feel the need to understand, I am reminded that these belong to God and He does not need to share all His ways with me. Indeed, sometimes it is for my good or the good of others that they are not revealed and go unanswered.

I can, however, count on “the things revealed” as belonging to myself and my children and future generations forever – statements of truth I can claim!

John 3:16-17
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

John 14:6
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

These truths are revealed to us so “we may follow all the words of this law”. Through His Word, God has revealed Himself, His ways and desires for a purpose. We are to obey God’s Word. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves. We are to walk by the Spirit and bear Spiritual fruit.

Pray with me:
Father God, we read in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Help us, please, to trust in Your Word, though our circumstances may be overwhelming. Increase our faith to trust in Your timing and submit to Your will. Let us leave the “secret things” with You and boldly move forward sharing Your love with others and making Christ known. To Your glory we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2021 Daily Devotion - Day 340

Many years ago, we decided we needed a dog in the house. After all, we had a cat our son named “Sweat Pea”. We heard about a breeder who had a recently returned dog, because the new owner couldn’t keep the dog where she lived. We also learned the dog would be free. So, we went to visit the breeder and the little Dachshund. Her name was Fraulein von Munchkin. The breeder said she was one of the original munchkins. So, we took her home and had some fun times with “Munchie”. Some people at church were even able to meet her a few times. One of the things I will always remember is how worked up the dog got if anyone came to our front door. She would almost loose her mind with barking and the like. You could always count on Munchie to become hyper-excited when someone came knocking. There were times when I knew someone, like the plumber, would be coming over to the house at 2:00pm, and Munchie would be lying in her bed in my home office. “It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You! It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You!” Written by: Elyssa Smith Surrounded (Fight my Battles) We often sing this song during our praise worship service at Mount of Olives. This song became my mantra during a scary time in my life. I would like to share it with you. One night I woke up feeling dizzy and struggling to breathe. I immediately dismissed it as being anxiety which tends to worsen at night. Later that day, I noticed that my left foot was turning a purplish color. I notified my primary doctor who advised me to go to the ER immediately. My sister took me to the ER to be evaluated. By this time, the pain was radiating down my leg, and I could hardly breathe. I was diagnosed with a blood clot that originated in my leg and travelled to my lungs. I was admitted to the hospital for further treatment of the DVT and Pulmonary Embolism.
