2021 Daily Devotion - Day 454
Acts 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
This year on Pentecost, Pastor John Steward spoke about the impact the Holy Spirit has upon all Christian believers, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We can absolutely believe the Holy Spirit is alive within each of us and can go a step further asking Him to speak to us, to guide us and help us to reach others for Christ. A challenge was put out to ask the Spirit to tell us what it is we can do. What is our gift to share?
Personally, my struggle isn’t so much what to do but the stamina and motivation to get going. Perhaps this is due to the past year of Covid restrictions. In a time of isolation, I baked, spring cleaned through summer, fall, winter and back to spring again; completed puzzles, sent greeting cards and went through closets and cupboards gathering items to donate. You see I thought I needed to stay busy, accomplishing daily tasks to fill my days. Yet the day I looked forward to, prepared for and found the most joy was Wednesday evening Bible study. “Women Walking with God” continued meeting over Zoom and the studies we read and shared together fed our souls. We enjoyed fellowship, studied God’s Word and prayed together. Our table group, not wanting to be out of contact over the summer, decided to do a book club over June and July.
One definition of motivation is “presenting yourself with the exact reasons and facts that make you think and work only in one direction. It is something that makes you think in a positive direction and pushes you to adapt good habits which is actually very difficult to achieve with your daily activities.” (www.studytonight.com) Upon reading this definition, it came to my mind that maybe, just maybe, I was looking for tasks to complete to bring me purpose, rather than building on the relationship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Wednesday evening was when I found my greatest joy, could it be that easy? Did I need to check things off or bask in the Word?
Pray with me:
Father God, in Romans 15;13 we read, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” We ask now that the power of the Holy Spirit would take flight in our lives, guiding and encouraging us in our daily actions and habits, motivating us to do Your work here on earth. Let us share with others the hope, joy and peace we find as we trust in our Triune God. Let us not forget we have been sent to do so. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
