2021 Daily Devotion - Day 449
Question, am I the only one who God talks to through scripture? In the last several weeks, I’ve been reading a lot of scripture concerning thankfulness, gratitude and attitude. So of course it made me stop and think – am I thankful? Do I have an attitude of gratitude or do I just go through life expecting God to make everything right?
Many years ago when I was working at the church office, Jim Trunick came in for a staff inspirational talk. I’ll never forget when he said, “Change your mindset. Change your attitude.” Instead of using the words “I HAVE to,” change it to “I GET to”. As in... I get to go to work, I get to do laundry, I get to go to the grocery store, I get to pick up my kids from school. Do you understand where I’m going with this? God has given us such an opportunity to thank Him for everything we GET to do. When you change that one phrase from “I have to” to “I get to”, it changes everything!
You and I have many opportunities to complain on a regular basis. Complaining doesn’t do any good. All complaining does is open the door for the enemy. Instead of complaining, let’s choose to respond to the Lord each day by developing an attitude of gratitude. This is not just an occasional expression of thanks, but a continual lifestyle of thanksgiving.
God has given us dozens of opportunities which happen during ordinary, everyday life. When we stop and have an attitude of gratitude, we can enjoy them. You’ll find when you have the mindset of being thankful, you will experience a joy in your life that comes only from Christ. Joy doesn’t come merely from being entertained, but from a decision to appreciate each moment you are given as a rare and precious gift from God.
Philippians 2:14-15
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the Word of life.
Pray with me:
Father God, we come to You and we humbly say thank You Lord. Thank You for everything You’ve given us. Thank You for the joy You want us to experience every day. Help us to always have an attitude of gratitude for everything You do for us. Help us to be the “stars shining in the sky”, to be the light in this dark world. We thank You because we get to be Your children and we pray to shine so brightly it causes others to come to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
