2021 Daily Devotion - Day 444
“Life is a tapestry: We are the warp; angels the weft; God the weaver. Only the weaver sees the whole design.” – Eileen Elias Freeman
Actual angels here on earth? I believe I’ve had two such experiences.
First, I was traveling in Venezuela to watch my son play baseball for team USA in the 16 and under world tournament. While that was thrilling in itself, traveling there at that time was considered to be very dangerous, especially in Caracas. When it came time to return home, I had to fly from Barquisimeto to Caracas, and then catch a cab at night to the hotel to lay over until morning. I knew catching the wrong cab could be disastrous. It turns out that a businessman at the Barquisimeto airport sensed my distress, took me under his wing, sat with me on the plane, and actually insisted on staying with me after the flight to personally arrange a reliable safe passage for me to the hotel – an angel, indeed!
A second incident was when I was meeting with my one on one accountability brother in Christ. Randy was nursing a very sore back, and I had been having some spirited philosophical discussions with my son. Out of the nearby gym came a young woman who approached us unexpectedly and told us she was just led to pray for us. Without foreknowledge from us, she prayed for Randy’s physical condition as well as for discernment for me with a family issue. How did she know this? It was powerful!
According to a Christian scholar no less than Billy Graham, he has stated, “The Bible tells us that for the believer, nothing happens outside of God’s control – and yes, if we know Christ, His angels continually watch over us. While the angels are real, we are not to become preoccupied with them, or to worship them. Only God is worthy of our worship, and only Christ saves us.”
Hebrews 1:14
“Are not all angels spirits in the divine service sent to serve for the sake of those who inherit salvation?”
Let us pray:
Father, thank You for sending angels to touch our lives. Thank You for Your faithfulness, in addition to knowing the perfect moments in our lives where You see a necessity for an infusion of Your love and protection. We are in awe of You, Lord! We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
