2021 Daily Devotion - Day 440

My Small Group and I have been studying Beth Moore's "Chasing Vines". A theologian by the name of Augustine wrote this and it truly touched my heart.

"How sweet all at once it was for me to be rid of those fruitless joys which I had once feared to lose...! You drove them from me, You who are the Truth, The Sovereign Joy. You drove them from me and took their place, You who are sweeter than all pleasure, though not to Flesh and Blood, You who outshine all Light, yet are heading deeper than any secret in our hearts, You who surpass all Honor, though not in the eyes of men who see all honor in themselves... O Lord my God, my Light, my Wealth, and my Salvation."

As Pastor Steward says, let’s unpack this...

1. Fruitless joys: Going to the gym every day, going shopping every day, having people around me to keep me occupied and distracted from how lost and empty I was.

2. You who are Truth, You who are Sovereign Joy. The first time I heard His Word being spoken into me, I felt chills up and down my body. I felt myself being lifted up out of my despair because His Truth was being poured into my heart and soul filling in all those empty areas in my life.

3. O Lord my God, my Light, my Wealth, and my Salvation. You have become my everything, my daily Strength, my Shepherd, my Light, my Wealth, my Salvation and my Father.

To me this is what having a relationship with Christ looks like – filling in all those holes in my soul. This is my interpretation because of my circumstances in life. Read it as many times as you need. What is it saying to you?

Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Pray with me:
Father God, You are everything I need every day. Help me to seek You in everything around me. Help me to seek those who are lost and are trying to fill the holes in their hearts and souls. Let me be Your light in this world. You live within me, You are at the center of my being. Help me to always look for Your joy, for Your wealth through Your Word, knowing that because of Jesus, I have salvation and eternal life with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
