2021 Daily Devotion - Day 411

Young moms often ask me the secret to raising three successful sons, and my answer is always the same: pray all the time! I was raised to believe in the power of prayer, and it has been second nature for me to bring my requests to the Lord. My childlike prayers were simple, and because of the model in my home, centered around the needs of others. I prayed for my family, my friends and my church. When I got older, my prayers became rather self-centered, and I prayed for help with my social life, my school work, and my activities.

At times I would treat God as a fairy godmother, asking for things I badly wanted: a date with a certain boy, an invitation to a particular party, or entrance into a social group. Often my prayer was answered, but it was a ‘No!’ My faith was such that I accepted God’s answer, even though I was disappointed and would shed many tears as I let God know I didn’t understand. At times, hindsight would prove God’s answer was right for me, but other times, I was not to know why.

Through the years of becoming a wife, a mother, and now a grandmother, I have learned that the more time I spend in God’s Word, the more my prayers are aligned with God’s will for me as His beloved child. The better I know Him, the better equipped I am to go to Him with my concerns. I continue to pray for our three sons, but I have added our three daughters-in-law, and our six grandchildren to that prayer. And I remember to thank God daily for the blessing of family. I now find my prayer life to be enhanced as I daily read the Scripture, because God shows me, through His Word, just how to pray. Often my Bible reading and prayer time become intertwined as I delight in His Word.

Pray with me:
Dear Lord, speak to me as I delight in Your Word. Amen.

Psalm 37:4
Delight in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
