2021 Daily Devotion - Day 407
Wednesday, May 5, 2021
“Grandma, can you pray to God for me?”
“Well of course I can pray to God for you; I pray for you and your family every day. You do know though, YOU can pray to Him – you don’t need me.”
“But Grandma, if you pray for me, maybe He will answer your prayer because He doesn’t answer my prayers.”
“Well,” Grandma said, “You can pray to God whenever you want. You should remember He sometimes says ‘yes’, sometimes says ‘no’, sometimes says ‘you will need to wait.’ What were you praying for, dear?”
Her young grandson hesitated a moment, and then said, “A special kind of BeyBlade.”
To which Grandma responded, “The other thing that God asks is ‘Will this bring you into a closer relationship with Me?’”
Too often, we pray only when we want something; this young boy is typical of children and adults alike. Have we thought about talking to God, praying to Him throughout the day, every day – just like having a conversation with a friend?
God DOES hear all of our prayers, and so we can pray confidently. And, He knows the desires of our heart before we even say the words. But He wants us to seek Him for guidance and wisdom, seek Him for reassurance, and seek Him for comfort – seek Him in all things!
Psalm 37: 4-6
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and He will help you.
Pray with Me:
Heavenly Father, we may lose sight of the power of prayer, especially when it seems as though our prayers are going unanswered. Remind us that He can fill the needs of our hearts, in particular for a closer relationship with Him. Teach us to pray confidently to our dearest Friend. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
