2021 Daily Devotion - Day 405

Prayer

Have you ever been in a group of believers and thought to yourself, “I can never pray as well as them.” Well you’re not alone. Let me share a personal experience. When I was on staff at Mount of Olives Church, every week we would have a meeting. We always started the meeting in prayer and then closed in prayer. Pastor Steward would open, and then he would ask, “Who of you would like to close out in prayer?” I’ve never seen so many heads go down so fast, including my own – thinking to myself, “Oh my goodness; I can’t pray like the pastors.” Talk about stressing out – I would sit as far as I could from Pastor Steward in meetings. But as time went on, I realized prayer doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be eloquent. All it has to be is a true conversation from your heart to the heart of our Father in heaven.

I’ve come to realize that all God really wants is to hear from us. He wants us to talk about every aspect of our day, including our feelings, our desires, our worries, our joys, our praises and our thanks. Our ultimate goal is not to be perfect in prayer. Our goal should be to keep in communication with our Lord. A successful day is one in which we have stayed in touch with the Lord throughout the day. By keeping in communication with Him, His spirit will guide us moment by moment to help us stay close to our Creator.

Many times throughout the day, I find myself just having a conversation with God. That’s what I tell my children and that’s what I tell others. Just talk to God, carry on a conversation with your Heavenly Father. He’s waiting to hear from you!

These are quotes from my daily devotionals:

“A successful day is one in which you have stayed in touch with our Lord.”
- Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

“Prayer doesn’t always change our situation, but prayer will always change us!”
- Hope for Each Day by Billy Graham

“I thank you Father that prayer doesn’t have to be long and complicated.”
- The Power of Being Thankful by Joyce Meyer

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Pray with me:
Father God, I thank You because I don’t have to have all the right words to be able to have a conversation with You. I thank You for always being available to me throughout the day. I thank You for always having time to listen to me. You fill my soul with peace and strength and endurance for the day. Help me to always be able to open my heart and my soul to You, Father. For in You is where I find my joy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
