2021 Daily Devotion - Day 352

Most people do not realize you can actually know for certain you have eternal life and you are going to heaven when you die.

The reason so many people do not have this understanding is because they think we have to earn our way to heaven, and it would be rather arrogant to think we have done enough to qualify. So, as a result, most people if asked if they are going to heaven, will say something like, “I hope so.” But the Bible actually teaches we can know this for a fact because heaven is a gift and not something we can earn. Heaven is made possible because God became a man in Jesus, died on a cross and was raised again three days later.

Jesus promises if you confess your sins and put your trust in Him as your only Savior, He will wash you so you can stand before a Holy God as if you have never sinned, and this results in heaven; not because of anything you have done, but because of everything God did for you at the cross. This is what the Apostle John writes in his first Epistle:

I John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Notice it doesn’t say you can “hope” you have eternal life, but rather, you may “know”. So, put your trust in Jesus as your Savior, and find the comfort in “knowing” you have forgiveness and eternal life.

Heavenly Father, it is so wonderful to know we have eternal life. We can have this assurance because of Jesus. Give us that assurance this day and forever more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

"An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out?" Many people often look at the negative side of life. President Reagan used to say that when people do this, it’s as if when you “give them a silver lining, they will find a cloud”. Of course, he was using the old saying “in every cloud, there is a silver lining” and reversing it to make a point. It is very important to be a “glass half full” kind of person. Looking for and expecting good things helps us to stay hope-filled. So, on this new day, be a positive person. Look for the good in everything. Look for hope in everything. Refuse to let yourselves dwell on the negative. Speak to others in inspirational ways, and you will find that your days will be better.
