2021 Daily Devotion - Day 348

A little boy fell out of the bed in his sleep. His father picked him up and put him back in bed. He asked him, "Son, what happened?" The little boy responded, "I fell asleep too close to where I got in."

I believe this story describes too many Christians today...they have fallen asleep too close to where they got in. They are not in danger of falling out of salvation, but they have made no spiritual progress in their walk with Christ Jesus. Too many in our Lutheran church are in the same place they were when they were confirmed. They know the same about the Bible as when they were young. They rarely serve or invite someone to church. It is like they are frozen in time. What about you?

Lent is meant to be a season of self-examination and growth as a disciple. Take some time to consider how you can take a new step in your journey of discipleship. Maybe it is to join a small group or go on a Cursillo weekend. Maybe it is time to invite that co-worker or neighbor to church – even if it is online. Let’s take the next step this Lenten season.

Colossians 1:10 ESV
So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, it is easy for our spiritual lives to be stunted. Give us a hunger to want to know You better and serve You more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
Senior Pastor
Mount of Olives Church
