2021 Daily Devotion - Day 336
In the 60s, Simon and Garfunkel wrote these song lyrics:
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I’ve built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship;
Friendship causes pain.
It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
This is an unfortunate philosophy of life, yet many people live according to this outlook. It is done in a variety of ways. We live it out when we bury and submerge our emotions. We live it out when we refuse to go deeper into Christian Community. This has never been God’s plan.
Yesterday, we examined how Jesus created His Church. One of the aspects of His Church was for us to give care and comfort to those with whom we are in fellowship in Jesus’ name. Certainly, COVID-19 has taught us we need community; especially Christian community.
Galatians 6:2 ESV
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, too many of us sadly think we can go it alone, but we really cannot. It is not a sustainable way to live. You are calling all people out of the world and into fellowship in Your Church, because we were never designed for isolation, but rather for Christian community. Help us to grow deeper into Christian community. In Jesus’ name. Amen
