2021 Daily Devotion - Day 321
One of the greatest ways we can improve the relationships in our lives is by the way we speak or don’t speak to others. It is vital for us to consider how we speak to others. It might even be helpful for us to ask a safe person in our lives about how we speak to others.
In an iconic scene from The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy finds herself in the strange and mysterious Land of Oz. On her journey, she encounters a talking scarecrow and they enjoy this telling exchange:
Scarecrow: I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
It becomes vital to think before we speak. By thinking before we speak, we can determine if what we are about to say will be uplifting or a put down. Will it be encouraging or negative? This one step of thinking before we speak can make an important difference in every relationship in our lives.
Proverbs 17:27 NASB
One who withholds his words has knowledge, and one who has a cool spirit is a person of understanding.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, help us to guard our tongues. With practice, this is something we can do, and the results will be amazing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
