2021 Daily Devotion - Day 308

“Patience is the companion of wisdom.” - Saint Augustine

During periods like the one we are experiencing with the pandemic, we often learn good things can come from what is now so difficult. We don’t always think about this fact, because we get so caught up in our day-to-day struggles and setbacks. However, maybe we can step back and realize one of the benefits to waiting and being patient is it causing us to grow in wisdom. One of the great things missing in our time is wisdom. We will all be better off for learning and developing greater wisdom in our lives.

In the Apostle Paul’s first letter to young Timothy, he cautions him not to be taken in by the sins and brokenness of this world. He teaches Timothy the “love of money is the root of all evil” (notice he says the “love” of money and not money in and of itself). Then he goes on with more advice:

1 Timothy 6:11 ESV
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

So, in these days, let us pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness/endurance, and gentleness; and grow in wisdom.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, You are able to take bad things and turn them into something good. We pray You will take all we are dealing with and use it to develop in us greater wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
