2021 Daily Devotion - Day 298
There are so many things that can trouble our spirit and cause us to be rather negative. We can come to a place of despair. From the Pandemic, to challenges in our nation and around the world, we can come to a perspective of hopelessness. And then there are always the personal trials of health and well-being we add to the mix.
Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of Great Britain during WWII. There were tremendous challenges all around him and his nation as Hitler was trying to take over Europe. So, he knew what great difficulties were all about. But in the midst of it all, he said this:
“For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use to be anything else.”
– Winston Churchill
We must always work at having an optimistic outlook. There will always be painful moments in life, but it is our outlook and attitude which are so essential for getting us through it all. I truly believe the reason we can be hopeful is because God Himself is still on His throne and will bring us to a place of restoration. This was the point of view of the Psalmist.
Psalm 43:5 ESV
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, help us to look to You and not our situation. For when we look to our left or our right, we can be filled with despair. You have promised to walk with us, and You always keep Your promises. And because this is true, we can look at life and everything around us with hope and even optimism. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
