2020 Daily Devotion - Day 258

When the COVID-19 Pandemic began back in March of 2020, I am sure you thought, as did I, it would only take about three months, and then life would go back to normal. However, here we are in December of 2020, and we are still dealing with many of the same issues.

Recently, as I pondered this period, it occurred to me that through these many months, we have been learning one of the lessons of Advent. This lesson is about waiting, but not just any kind of waiting; waiting for God. All through the scriptures, we see example after example of people waiting for God to do what He said He would do – like Abraham in the Old Testament. God promised him he would be the father of a great nation, even though he and his wife never had a child and she was past child bearing years. Abraham had to wait a long period of time for this promise to be fulfilled, and yet it was.

Advent is the period of time where we learn the lessons of waiting on God. We learn to be more patient. We learn to be more humble. We learn to trust God and His timing. May we be better students of waiting on God.

Psalm 39:7 ESV
“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, because our hope is in You, we really can wait. The waiting is a constant reminder that You are in charge and we can grow and learn through this experience. Give us the grace and strength we need to be someone who can wait on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
