2020 Daily Devotion - Day 250
"People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily." — Zig Ziglar, Author
Renewing our motivation on a regular basis is especially needed right now. If we do not, we will grow stagnant and sluggish. So, it becomes important to stop and reflect on what we are doing, and even ask why. It might even mean learning how to “reinvent yourself” by reading a book or taking a class. To stay motivated, it helps to be in a position where we can learn new things and not be satisfied with what we already know; as if we have come to the end of all there is to know.
It is important to do these kinds of things to stay motivated. However, there is something even more basic we need – something so foundational that without it, all of the other efforts to stay motivated will never be truly satisfying. This is to know the purpose God has for me. We know through His Word, He wants us to have a relationship with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ. We know He wants us to be witnesses for Christ and bring others to faith. We know He has given each of us gifts and abilities which should be used in service to Christ Jesus in some kind of ministry. So, let’s stop and examine everything we are doing and ask if it is fulfilling the purpose God has given to me, and in so doing, find true motivation.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NRSV
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, help us to know the purpose You have for us to accomplish. And then give us the desire to want to carry it out. We need to be motivated, and nothing motivates us better than carrying out Your purpose for our lives. In Your holy name. Amen.
Yours because of Him,
