2020 Daily Devotion - Day 212

Psalm 33:20-22 ESV
Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

The Psalmist says his soul waits for the Lord. What does this look like? G. Campbell Morgan put it this way, “Waiting for God is not laziness. Waiting for God is not going to sleep. Waiting for God is not the abandonment of effort. Waiting for God means, first, activity under command; second, readiness for any new command that may come; third, the ability to do nothing until the command is given.”

So, waiting is not meant to be a period of passivity. It can be a time of preparedness. It can be a time where we grow to become stronger and more prepared for the future. How can you use this time to grow and develop in your walk with Christ? What is the next step? Please say it out loud so your soul will hear you say it.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, sometimes we have not understood what waiting can mean. It is important to know this can be a time of transformation and growth. But more importantly, it is a time to take action and get ready for the future. Show us how You want us to grow as Christ followers by waiting on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
