2020 Daily Devotion - Day 207
Many will remember the old television show Gilligan’s Island. The story is told at the start of each show with a song describing what happened.
Gilligan’s Island Theme Song:
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship
The mate was a mighty sailing man, the skipper brave and sure
Five passengers set sail that day, on a three-hour tour
A three-hour tour
The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed
If not for the courage of the fearless crew the Minnow would be lost
The Minnow would be lost
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan, the Skipper too
The millionaire and his wife
The movie star, Professor and Mary Ann
Here on Gilligan's Isle
They were just going to take a little trip in the boat for three hours. A three-hour tour turned into being stranded on a deserted island for a great deal longer than they had ever imagined.
I kind of feel the same way about COVID-19. What looked like something that would be over in a couple of months is still with us. And so, it requires patience and steadfastness.
James 5: 11
Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
So how in the world could we ever be “blessed” through being steadfast? Because it has this ability to mature and develop us into stronger people. This is the blessing. Someday you will look back and realize how this current time has prepared you for the future.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we need Your grace and strength to have the steadfastness of Job. Please give us the vigor we need to mature and develop into people who are strong and resilient. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Yours because of Him,
