2020 Daily Devotion - Day 194
Holy Communion reminds us God really gets engaged in the serious matters of life. In addition, He gets involved in the essential challenges of our broken condition. Since He is the Almighty God who is preeminent and needs nothing, it would be easy for Him to simply sit back and let us deal with our condition on our own. At least that is what we would be tempted to do. But thankfully, God is not like we are. He gets into the battle for His lost and broken world. He is even willing to come Himself and shed His own blood for you and me and actually experience death.
Holy Communion has a way of uniting us with this battle. Through the Sacrament, we become one with Him in His redemptive work and ministry.
1 Corinthians 10:16 ESV
The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
So, the next time you toy with the idea of being alone or even abandoned, allow Holy Communion to be the tool to remind you that you have been united in Christ Jesus.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, You amaze us by being so engaged in our lives. Through a cross You have come to rescue us, and through a cross we are united with You. Every time we receive the Sacraments, remind us of this truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Yours because of Him,
