2020 Daily Devotion - Day 178

Our society has a strong focus on education. It has been difficult during this pandemic for students, at all levels, to do remote learning. Normally, students entering college would be very excited, but now it is very different. However, the goal of education remains the same. We want our students to develop academically and intellectually. We know as a nation we need a well-educated society. More and more, the international marketplace is demanding people to have the kind of knowledge which can compete in a global economy.

As important as education is, we rarely hear anyone talking about wisdom. Knowing history or equations is what we think is greatly needed. Very few ever lift up something even more important – wisdom. Wisdom will help us know how to use our education. Wisdom helps us to make good judgements which affect those around us. We can’t find a class on wisdom, and yet, it is greatly needed. So, where do we find wisdom?

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

This passage is telling us wisdom is developed in two ways. The first is to “fear the Lord”, which actually means to have high respect for God. It is even more than respect. It is an honoring of God in our lives and allowing Him to be in charge. It means to submit to Him in all areas.

Secondly, wisdom is developed through the study of His Word. The more we hear His voice through His Word, the wiser we become. So, in these challenging days, let us grow in wisdom.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we need the wisdom which only You can give. Help us to grow in Your wisdom so we may successfully deal with all life hands us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
