2020 Daily Devotion - Day 165
Imagine how frightened the early disciples were before and after the resurrection of Jesus. Encountering the cross drove them into hiding. They were confused as they remember all of what Jesus had taught them and the promises He had made as they faced the reality of His cruel death. And then, to see Him alive again truly rocked their world. No one had ever seen anything like this.
What did it all mean? When Jesus said He must return to the Father in heaven, I am sure there was a new level of fear. What was coming next? What would they do without Him?
In John chapter 14, Jesus promises that as He leaves, He will send the Holy Spirit, who will be His actual presence going forward. The Holy Spirit will guide them and lead them into all truth. Then in verse 18, Jesus says this:
John 14:18 ESV
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
Even today, this promise still applies to us. He says He will not leave us as orphans but will remain with us as well. So whatever you are going through right now, just remember one very important thing – Jesus walks with you. You are not alone.
Pray with me:
Jesus, thank You for considering all aspects of our needs. You give us everything and then You promise us Your very presence in our lives. Use the reality of Your promise to give us the strength we need for this journey. In Your holy name. Amen.
