2020 Daily Devotion - Day 145
Some fishermen were caught in a sudden storm on Lake Superior. It seemed that unless something happened, their boat would be swamped. One of the men was experienced at prayer and suggested they should select someone to pray. The one selected to pray hadn’t been to church in a number of years and confessed he hadn’t done much praying during the recent years either. Nonetheless, he was asked to speak on their behalf to the Almighty. As he prayed, the words came…”O Lord, I haven’t asked you for anything for 15 years. And if you deliver us from this storm and bring us safely to land again, I promise that I won’t bother you for another 15 years.” This man needs to learn the real secret to prayer. The more persistent we are; the more we “bother” God; the more we ask, seek, and knock, the more we prove we know one of the secrets to a good prayer life. (From Christopher Martin’s Sermon: Secrets to Prayer)
If our children never wanted to speak with us, it would deeply wound our spirit. If they thought we were too busy or not interested in their lives, we would be distressed. Well, this is how our Heavenly Father feels when we rarely come to Him in prayer. During these stressful days, it is essential for us to go to Him regularly in prayer. Determine a time each day when you can spend time with Him in prayer, and then do it. You will discover greater peace and answers.
Psalm 18:6 ESV
In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, it breaks Your heart when we do not come to You in prayer. This is because You love us and want to be close to us. Help us to turn to You daily in prayer and discover Your great store of strength and peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Yours because of Him,
