2020 Daily Devotion - Day 132

When life is difficult, it is vital to know that God really does keep His promises. Often, we allow circumstances to shape our view and how we see things. When things are challenging, this approach will lead to nothing but worry and anxiety. However, if we allow our view to be seen in the light of God’s promises, we can greatly reduce the amount of stress we face. This is what the psalmist is teaching us.

Psalm 33 ESV
Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
 
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, when we are filled with worry and anxiety, remind us that You always keep Your promises. We can put our trust in You. Give us peace in knowing You are in command and control and let us be faithful to what You have promised. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

2021 Daily Devotion - Day 340

Many years ago, we decided we needed a dog in the house. After all, we had a cat our son named “Sweat Pea”. We heard about a breeder who had a recently returned dog, because the new owner couldn’t keep the dog where she lived. We also learned the dog would be free. So, we went to visit the breeder and the little Dachshund. Her name was Fraulein von Munchkin. The breeder said she was one of the original munchkins. So, we took her home and had some fun times with “Munchie”. Some people at church were even able to meet her a few times. One of the things I will always remember is how worked up the dog got if anyone came to our front door. She would almost loose her mind with barking and the like. You could always count on Munchie to become hyper-excited when someone came knocking. There were times when I knew someone, like the plumber, would be coming over to the house at 2:00pm, and Munchie would be lying in her bed in my home office. 2021 Daily Devotion - Day 446

Being a migraine sufferer, I have had a few MRI tests done in the last few years. The most recent was just a few weeks ago. The machine is loud, and they play loud classical music to try to distract you from the weird tones and knocking of the machine. I choose to close my eyes even before I go in and don’t open them again until the technician tells me I am “all clear”. As I practiced my coping skills of slow steady focused breathing and keeping my eyes closed, half way through, I decided to also call to mind Bible verses I had committed to memory over the years. To my dismay, I realized this only took about 4 minutes out of the 20 minute test! “I know, I thought to myself, I’ll think of poems I have learned!” “The thunder roared, the lightning flashed, the very earth was shaken! A little pig curled up his tail, and ran to save his bacon!” I chuckled to myself as I realized this was the only poem I have ever memorized! It gave me great comfort when I was a little girl.
