2020 Daily Devotion - Day 128

Have you ever watched a sporting event on television already knowing the score and outcome of the game? Perhaps you have recorded the game to watch later in the day, and someone mentions the game and the final score to you. Or you are watching something else and the television station reports the final score. Even though you know the outcome, sometimes you watch any way. And if your team has won the game, you watch with a high degree of confidence. When your team gets in trouble and things are starting to look bad, and they might even lose, you know better because you already know the outcome. You know they have been victorious and no matter what happens, you know who the winner will be.

In many ways, this is exactly what the believer in Jesus Christ can experience. We know God became a man in Jesus Christ, died on a cross and was raised from the dead. In this act, He destroyed sin and death. And when we trust in Him as Savior and Lord, He will do this for us. In other words, we already have the victory. We do not need to be caught up in worry and anxiety, for we know who the victor will be, because He has already won the victory. This is what the Apostle Paul is saying in First Corinthians:

1 Corinthians 15:57 ESV
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have the victory in Jesus Christ, so we can live with confidence and courage – because the victory has been obtained through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for we already have the victory. No matter what we are facing right now, we can do so with courage and confidence, because of the victory we have in Jesus. Help us to stand strong on the victory we have in Him. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
