2020 Daily Devotion - Day 127

We live in a time when so many people think they know the right thing to do. They look on past generations as either fools or just not enlightened. But even for some of these people, a great deal of what they believe is like a fad, because it keeps changing. It seems like every few years, there is a new focus and a new path. And if we could ever stop and think about it, we would have to ask how can truth keep changing? It doesn’t change when it comes to gravity. Gravity always stays the same.

What if I told you that there was a source of truth for all the issues of life that would never change? What if I told you there was a source for wisdom which could get you through any challenging time? What if I told you if you follow this source of truth, it would give your life purpose and peace? Well, I am talking about the Bible, and it was written by the One who created the never changing gravity. I want to encourage you to open your Bible and begin reading it every day. Start with the Gospel of John and read a portion each day. After you have done this a couple of times, read other books in the New Testament. Then go on to the book of Proverbs and Psalms, and then go back and read Matthew’s Gospel and keep going. Do it every day, and you will be amazed at what it can do.

And if you want to supercharge this journey, memorize the passages that speak to your heart. Recite them out loud while you are driving or repeat them back to God in prayer. It will change so much of your life for the good.

Psalm 1:1-3 NRSV
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, thank You so very much for giving us Your Word – a never changing truth. You have not left us to ourselves, but have provided answers to some of the most perplexing problems of our lives. Help us to open Your Word and receive Your instruction each and every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
