2020 Daily Devotion - Day 110
In this period of the Great Comeback, we are asking you to prayerfully consider where you can serve Christ at Mount of Olives Church. We need to think about doing something new for Him so we can grow and develop into the kind of disciples we are called to be. But here is an important question: What is our motivation in serving the Lord. Is it for our own interest or for His purpose?
A loaded mini-van pulled up to the only remaining campsite. Four youngsters leaped from the vehicle and feverishly began unloading the gear and setting up the tent. The boys rushed off to gather firewood while the girls, along with their mother, began to set up the camp stove and cooking utensils. A nearby camper watched and marveled to the children's father, "Sir, that is the greatest display of teamwork I have ever seen. How do you run such a disciplined family?" The father said, "Well, it really works on only one basic principle. Nobody gets to go to the bathroom until the camp is set up!"
We don’t want to be a church where we live for ourselves and our own best interests. We want to be motivated by what God has asked us to do – “Go and make disciples of all nations….”
Colossians 3:23 ESV
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, sometimes, even in our serving, we can turn it into something we are doing because it is the way we want it to be. However, we are called to “die to ourselves” and to serve Christ from a “selfless” attitude. Help us to do this. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
