2020 Daily Devotion - Day 105

Quite often, I find myself saying something I am sure you may say, too, “It’s always something.” This phrase really speaks into what happens, all too often, in our lives. Regular, consistent, and aggravating problems are all around us. Some are big and some are small. However, whatever their size, they have a way of truly wearying us out, because these challenges are un-relenting, and seem to be never ending. They just keep on coming, and therefore, the phrase, “It’s always something.”

This is why we need some tools to better manage these developments. Here are a just a few.
1. Don’t over extend yourself, because when you are living on the edge, the constant aggravating problems will take you over the edge. So, have some boundaries. Take time off. Do something you like to do.
2. Don’t go it alone. When you think it is all up to you, you will come to a moment when you do something you will later regret. When you are going it alone, it often leads to bad decisions and disappointing outcomes. So, ask someone for help.
3. Always find something to laugh about. Learn to tell some jokes, and if they are only funny to you, that’s alright.
4. Constantly tell God what is bothering you. He is never annoyed and He never says, “It’s always something.” He loves to hear from us, and we need to speak with Him.
5. Find comfort in His Word. Memorize passages that are meaningful to you, and then say them out loud when you are stressed.

This is what the Apostle Paul told the church at Rome:

Romans 15:4 ESV
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, You are the non-anxious presence in all of our anxious moments. Remind us to have boundaries and to laugh. Help us to bring all of our worries to You. Empower us to open Your Word, so You can speak Your message of guidance and hope to us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
