2020 Daily Devotion - Day 101

Someone once said, “The only person God sends away empty, is the person full of himself.”
Pride and arrogance are such an insidious problem in our lives. I think it sometimes comes about because we live in such a competitive society where people have to perform at a high level; and then when they are successful, are proud of themselves. Over time and after achieving many accomplishments, it can easily take over our lives. Often, we don’t even recognize when we are being arrogant, but others do, and it pushes people away.

Psalm 138:6 NRSV
For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.
So maybe it would help if you asked someone close to you, “Do you think that I am arrogant and filled with hubris?”  If they say yes, then have a teachable spirit and ask God to teach you humility. When you grow in humility, every relationship will improve.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, give us teachable spirits. Help us to see our arrogance and pride, and to repent of it. Please replace our pride with humility, so we can grow and mature emotionally and spiritually. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
