2020 Daily Devotion - Day 79
Hebrews 6:19 ESV
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.
A ship without an anchor will drift and run aground. Or maybe it will smash into the rocks on the shore and be destroyed. It is essential for our lives to have an anchor. Eventually, we will need this, at some moments more than at others. Like right now – we have an anchor in our Lord Jesus Christ. And the writer to the Hebrews goes on to say that Jesus enters “into the inner place behind the curtain”. He is speaking of the curtain that covers the Holy of Holies in the Temple in Jerusalem in their day. Only the high priest could go into that space to make sacrifices for the sins of the people. Now, Jesus makes the final sacrifice for our sins that we might have eternal life – what good news.
During these days, remember your very soul has been anchored to Jesus, your savior. He will not allow you to be shipwrecked. You are moored to the grace and power of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for our anchor in Jesus. We will not be left to drift away. Remind us of this great truth now and forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Yours because of Him,
