2020 Daily Devotion - Day 75

John 19:30 RSV
When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished”; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

These were the last words Jesus would speak on the Cross. Three days later, He would rise from the dead. But these words – “It is finished” – are very helpful to us in a time like this. Not only do they mean the work of Salvation was finished and we can add nothing, but they also mean that Jesus never gave up. In the face of the most awful torture, He endured.
In Hebrews 12, the writer says because of the endurance of Jesus, you and I can have it, too. Jesus finished the course for our sake out of His great love for all people. He went all the way and finished the work so we could be saved through Him. His strength will help us to endure as well.

Pray with me:
Lord Jesus, You know what it is like to face the most difficult suffering, and still endure. You know how difficult and hard it is to do. Give us Your strength of endurance so that we might be sustained. In Your holy name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
