2020 Daily Devotion - Day 67

I have read that sometimes eagles drown while they are hunting. If they catch a fish too heavy for them to carry, and if they can’t get it to the shore quickly enough, the eagle may hang on to the fish and be dragged down under the water. If the eagle won’t let go of the heavy fish, they will drown. You can’t fly when you are weighed down.

That can happen to us. The burdens with which we deal can drag us down to the point of despair. Sometimes we, too, hold on to the burdens too long, and stubbornly won’t let go. However, we can let go and allow God to sustain us with His great store of strength. This is what the Psalmist is trying to say.

Psalm 145:13-14
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
The Lord is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds.
The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we need to let go and allow You to bring Your strength and power into our lives. Sometimes we are stubborn and won’t let go. But You have promised to “raise up all who are bowed down”. Help us to release the pressure and worry to You, and in so doing, find the peace we need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
