2020 Daily Devotion - Day 64

Throughout the scriptures, the people of God are commanded by God to remember His faithfulness. He often tells them that in the future they should stop and remember what He has done to rescue them. The Passover meal and celebration is all about remembering God’s faithfulness. Our Lord Jesus Christ, in instituting the Lord’s Supper, tells the disciples “to do this in remembrance of Me”.  Another example is when the children of Israel cross over the Jordan River, and God tells them to create an altar for remembrance.

Joshua 4:1-7
When the entire nation had finished crossing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua: “Select twelve men from the people, one from each tribe, and command them, ‘Take twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet stood, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you camp tonight.’” Then Joshua summoned the twelve men from the Israelites, whom he had appointed, one from each tribe. Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites, so that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So, these stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial forever.”

We need to be a people who remember God’s faithfulness. Especially during this era of the Coronavirus, we need to reflect and remember the times when God rescued us or directed our paths. Use this altar of remembrance to help you through this period. Allow God’s faithfulness in the past to help you in the present.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, sometimes we become so very forgetful. We get so caught up in the present that we forget all You have done in the past. Help us to remember that as You have been faithful in the past, You will be faithful now. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
