2020 Daily Devotion - Day 54
During this shut down, someone wrote, “Yeah, I have plans tonight. I’ll probably hit the living room around 8 or 9.”
Another wrote, “In an unsettling reversal of my teenage years, I am now yelling at my parents for going out.”
It is really important for us to laugh during these challenging days. Medical science tells us laughter can decrease the effects of stress and can actually increase immune cells for fighting infection. Laughter can also release endorphins in the body, which give us a sense of well-being. So, at every appropriate opportunity, try to laugh.
This is not anything new. The God who created us offered laughter as a prescription for the human condition a long time ago.
Proverbs 17:22
“A cheerful heart is a good medicine”
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, You created our ability to laugh. You give us this gift so we can have a natural release from stress and worry. Give us open hearts to the humor in these days, not as a way to minimize the significance of what we face, but as another tool with which to help us cope. In Jesus’ name. Amen
