2020 Daily Devotion - Day 45
How do we grow in faith? Does it come by having a great many problems in life? Probably not. Many people who have had great suffering become bitter and even angry. Sometimes those who suffer blame God, and instead of growing in faith, they go in the opposite direction.
The first thing we need to know is God is not the author of sickness and death. He is not the author of tragedy or war. When He created the world, He looked at it with pride and said, “It is Good.” But then, when sin came into the world, all of these terrible problems entered the world.
Secondly, we need to understand faith doesn’t come through suffering, but rather, through the Word of God. Faith in God is supernatural. It is not something we create through our own will or desire. It must be spoken or proclaimed into us through the Word of God.
This is what the Apostle Paul means in Romans 10 when He wrote Romans 10:17.
So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ.
Faith must be declared to us through the Word of God. This is why it is essential for us to read our Bibles, go to church and listen to sermons, and be in a Bible study where the Word is being taught. Now would be a good time to open your Bible and allow God to speak into your heart.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for not being silent. You have spoken in volumes to us through Your Word. Give us a hunger for Your Word so we might grow in faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
