2020 Daily Devotion - Day 9
So often in our lives, we think that if something is going to get done, we will have to do it ourselves. We think that we are the ones in charge of our lives. And then, we experience something like a worldwide pandemic. And now we feel rather helpless. Many decisions we would normally make are now being made for us. But this realization is just teaching us something that has always been true – that we really are not in charge. Even though we often think we are in charge, we are not; because “at the end of the day,” we learn that God is always in charge. And not only is He in charge, but He can be trusted because of His great love for each one of us.
In Psalm 71, the Psalmist is reminding us that God can be trusted: with our lives, with our future, and with this current situation. We will find greater peace when we stay focused on the truth that God is in charge and can be trusted.
Psalm 71:5 RSV
For thou, O Lord, art my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, forgive us for all the times where we thought that everything was up to us. And now, in these days, there is no escaping this lesson. Use this time to readjust our thinking, so that we put our trust in You and experience real hope. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
