2020 Daily Devotion - Day 33
Sunday, April 26, 2020
The great Christian reformer, Martin Luther, in fact, once spent three days in a black depression over something that had gone wrong. On the third day, his wife came downstairs dressed in mourning clothes.
"Who’s dead?" he asked her.
"God," she replied.
Luther rebuked her, saying, "What do you mean, God is dead? God cannot die."
"Well," she replied, "the way you’ve been acting, I was sure He had!"
God is certainly not dead. However, sometimes we think and act as if we are on our own. Too often, we think the troubles we face must be solved by our own ingenuity and hard work. During these days of the Coronavirus, it is vital for us to remember that God is not only alive, but is also active in the world.
Psalm 138:7 ESV
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being alive. You are alive and are fighting for our wellbeing. We can put our trust in Your strong arm and faithful love. Help us to grow in knowing Your strength and grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
