2020 Daily Devotion - Day 12
Palm Sunday
Martin Luther once wrote the following in Table Talks:
"God and the devil take opposite tactics in regard to fear. The Lord first allows us to become afraid, that he might relieve our fears and comfort us. The devil, on the other hand, first makes us feel secure in our pride and sins, that we might later be overwhelmed with fear and despair."
Fear can be a constant battle. Often, we submerge it, but then in times like these it is on full display. Luther is correct; it comes about because we are too often trying to be the ones in charge. Let us reorder our lives like we read in Philippians 4, for then we will have real peace.
Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 RSV
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, help us to submit to You by bringing everything to You in prayer. Strengthen us so we do not hold back any of our concerns to You. And as we do this, bring us the peace You have promised. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
