2020 Daily Devotion - Day 7
Many years ago, I heard a pastor say that when you find yourself down and sad, you should ask yourself this question: “What have I lost?” I have done this for many years and find that it really helps. And it works, because the reason we are sad is that we have lost something. It might be the loss of an opportunity or the loss of a dream. In these days of the coronavirus, it might be the loss of our freedom, or perhaps it is the loss of an anticipated event like a wedding or a vacation. With that in mind, take a look at the words of Psalm 42:11.
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.” Psalm 42:11
Chances are, the reason you are sad is because of something that you have lost. It’s OK to grieve that loss, but we don’t have to live there either. We can hope in the One that we will never lose and is the God of Heaven and Earth. That is how our Hope can be strengthened – By Hoping in God.
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, no matter what we lose, we have not lost You. Restore our hope. Remind us that You have not walked away, but You are far more present than we can know or understand. We ask this in the name of the One who is the fulfillment of our hope, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
