2020 Daily Devotion - Day 3

Zechariah 4:6b
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

The words that are used for “might” and “power” are “so closely synonymous…. They represent every human resource and ability such as physical or mental strength, all material and spiritual resources – even armies for that matter. They represent everything that man can muster. All this is brushed aside as being inadequate in administering the kingdom. A greater agency must be secured; in a greater power must all confidence be placed. That agency – ‘My Spirit, saith the Lord’” (Exposition of Zechariah by Dr. H.C. Leopold, Capital Seminary, Columbus Ohio p87)

This is a good word for us. Our future depends not on our might and power – but on God’s. This is the first step in Spiritual Growth and development. It is the first step in dealing with the events of our time with the coronavirus.

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, help us to remember from where the true power and strength come. They come from You. Help us to trust Your strength. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours because of Him,
Pastor John R. Steward
Senior Pastor
Mount of Olives Church
